A two-level, passive solar greenhouse at Hampshire College, Amherst, Massachusetts. The facility is used for research into self-contained biological systems and agriculture. The initial experimentation involved investigations into tilapia aquaculture and various agricultural plants. Water is circulated between tilapia tanks on the upper level and plants on the lower level. The tilapia provides nutrients for the plants and the plants provided water filtration and food for the tilapia. Sunlight from the greenhouse provided the energy for the process.
