Habitat for Humanity Housing

This project is the result of a unique partnering between Amherst College and the Western Massachusetts chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Amherst College donated the land to build four houses over the course of four years. Kuhn Riddle is provided the design of the prototype houses, which will be based on principals of sustainability. Super-insulated envelope and point source heating provide an economical alternative for affordable housing.

As part of a larger adaptive reuse of the Amherst Cinema Building, our own offices allowed us to build what we hope is a model of sustainability for future clients. “Green” features include: open floor plan with ample daylight, locally fabricated workstations made of wheatboard, locally grown and sustainably harvested ash flooring and trims, all-natural flooring made from linseed oil and cork, and a 5KW rooftop solar array that generates approximately 16% of the office’s electrical needs.

A multi-use conversion of an unoccupied, 1920s town-center cinema to include a new 3-screen cinema addition, retail, restaurant and office space. Includes LEED-certified offices for Kuhn Riddle Architects.
Onyx Restaurant

Part of the River’s Landing complex, Onyx occupies three levels of the south end of the former Basketball Hall of Fame building. It features an onyx bar, eighteen-screen video wall, and a two-story waterfall.
