About

Kuhn Riddle Architects

Kuhn Riddle Architects is a design studio located in downtown Amherst, Massachusetts, established in 1988 by John Kuhn and Chris Riddle.  John and Chris built the firm’s legacy upon a commitment to the community, thoughtful contextual design, and a connection to the environment. The second generation of leadership includes Jonathan Salvon, Charles Roberts and Aelan B. Tierney.

We Serve A Diverse Client Base

We provide architectural and interior design services to a diverse client base throughout the Pioneer Valley and beyond, including colleges and schools, individual families, churches, offices, retail and multi-family developers, and municipalities.

We Believe In Context

We believe in design which has strong links to context and site. As a New England firm we understand and respect historic buildings, and know that there are times to blend design with the historic fabric and there are times to complement the existing design through a contemporary design approach.

We Are Good Listeners

For us, design and construction are communicative and collaborative processes that succeed when all stakeholders work together and have ownership of the finished product. We translate your words into the built environment.

We Are Committed to Sustainable Design

Sustainability guides our thought process on every project, at all levels of design, from the initial concepts through construction. Whether the project is new construction or a deep energy retrofit, we are committed to providing our clients with designs – and buildings – that are intelligent and environmentally sensitive.

We Are Part of This Community

We believe in giving back to our community.  Many of our staff volunteer their time to serve on local design review boards, planning boards, school boards, local non-profits and more. Check out what we are doing in our “off hours”.
